What is The Princeton Hot Seat?

The Princeton Hot Seat is a new recurring photo blog to highlight the transient nature of the rowing community in the Princeton, New Jersey area.  It's open to anyone directly involved with the sport of rowing that comes to Princeton on rowing "business".  Could be rowers, coxswains, coaches, boatmen, officials, etc.

How does the Hot Seat Work?

Each subject gets four questions to answer, the first of which is simply, why are you here (in Princeton)?  Then the subject randomly draws the remaining three from a pool of pre-determined questions, of which half are rowing related, half are not...and can be pretty random.  They get one pass.

On the Hot Seat today is 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Henrik Rummel.

Princeton Hot Seat - Why are you in Princeton?

Henrik Rummel - I'm in Princeton training to make the 2016 Olympic rowing team.

PHS - When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

HR - I definitely wanted to play in the NBA, but I also wanted to be a veterinarian.  Then at one point I wanted to be a train conductor as well.  None of those have worked out so far!

PHS - If you had no limitations (money, time, etc.), what are some things you would like to do and experience?

HR - I would love to bike around the world with my wife Abra, I think that would be amazing.  Climbing Mount Everest would be another thing I would like to experience.  Then obviously I would like to keep on training for multiple Olympics.

PHS - What is some of the best coaching advice you have received?

HR -  You always have to try to improve yourself first.  I think a lot of younger rowers are quick to try and fix others before themselves, so it's important to always listen to your coaches, since they are the ones with the information specific to you and your crew.
